The Gamboa Regatta is a 500 m sprint race whose purpose is to test the acceleration skills for the competing Cayuco Race Teams, and it is hosted by the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. The race takes place in the Chagres River, in Gamboa, Rep. of Panama. This is the second to last event during the Cayuco Season

Medals are given to each member of the crews finishing in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category (best 3 overall times for each category). First places of each category win the Cup for this event.

This event is divided in several heats or rounds of eliminations in which 4 to 5 cayucos compete at the same time. Single or Double-elimination tournament schemes have been used, depending on the number of competitor teams. The elimination process is separate for each category. A typical sequence of heats could be the following:

• First heat juvenile male category.
• First heat juvenile female category.
• First heat juvenile coed category.
• First heat open male category.
• First heat open female category.
• First heat open coed category.
• Second heat juvenile male category.
• Second heat juvenile female category.

Description: Short straight sprint race hosted by the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.

As the morning progresses, the Chagres River hits with a strong current on the left side of the cayucos.

The race takes place a saturday, two weekends before the Ocean to Ocean Race. This is a typical race itinerary:

• 7:00 a.m. All Cayuco Teams report to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort Beach Srtip for cayuco inspections - Cayucos se deben presentar para su inspección.
• 8:15 a.m. Captains Meeting - Reunión de capitanes.
• 8:30 a.m. First hit starts - Inicia la primera carrera
• 12:30 p.m. (aprox.) Lunch and Awards Ceremony -Ceremonia de premación.

This stretch can be accessed at all times in the season through the Gamboa Public Ramp.
