The Balboa Yacht Club Cup is a miles race that opens the Cayuco Race Season of race events. The reace is hosted by the Balboa Yacht Club. The race takes place in the Pacific Ocean entrance of the Panama Canal all along the Amador Causeway, in Panama City, Rep. of Panama.

The first Balboa Yacht Club Cup took place in 2001.
[edit] Prizes & Race times
Medals are given to each member of the crews finishing in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category (best 3 overall times for each category). First places of each category win the Cup for this event.
This event is divided in two parts:
- First, all the Teams from the Juvenile Category depart.
- Ten minutes later, all the teams from the Open Category depart.

General Information
The First Balboa Yacht Club Cup was celebrated in 2001 and has an approximate length of 10 km (6.2 mi). It is a roundtrip race at the pacific entrance of the Panama Canal and it is hosted by the Balboa Yacht Club.
The race course starts under the Balboa Yacht Club Pier, runs down all the way towards the bay between Culebra, Flamenco, Naos and Perico Islands, where all cayucos turn to come back to the Balboa Yacht Club Pier, where the race ends.

EXPERIENCED STEERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS SECTION WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTIES.
The race is held during morning hours, before the breeze at the entrance of the canal grows stronger. The event takes place during HIGH/LOW TIDE????. There is a strong current pulling to the RIGHT/LEFT??? in the stretch between Mine Dock and the Balboa Yacht Club Pier

The race takes place a saturday/sunday morning, by the end of January. This is a typical race itinerary:
- 6:30 A.M. Reportarse a la Rampa Publica de Diablo para Inspeccion de cayucos - All Crews Report at Diablo Public Ramp. for boat inspection.
- 7:00 A.M. Ingreso de botes al agua - Crews start launching cayucos to the water.
- 8:30 A.M. Reunion de Capitanes en la Playita, bajo el Puente de las Américas - Captain's meeting at La Playita, Under the bridge of the Americas.
- 9:30 A.M. Inicio de Carrera - Race Starts
- 10:30 A.M. Final de la Carrera - Race ends.
- 11:30 A.M. Ceremonia de Premiación en el Club de Yates de Balboa - Awards ceremony at the Balboa Yacht Club restaurant.

This stretch can be accessed at all times in the season through the Diablo Public Ramp.
